My one goal for this year: do 10,000 pull-ups - was completed on the first of this month.
It has illustrated to me that working consistently towards a goal can yield physical improvements.
Now, for a goal for 2012...
I go back and forth...bike to work XXX times, run X,XXX miles, lift xxxxx, run a sub X:XX marathon...
Though I would like to do all four, they work against each other, to some extent. I can't run a fast marathon if I bike xxx days to work. I won't have the energy to run the required amount. Similarly, if I lift a lot, I won't have the energy to run a few thousand miles. If I run a few thousand miles, I won't have the time or energy to do much of anything else more that half-heartedly, and at an amount that won't be worth anything.
So, for 2012, I'm going to focus on
1. Bike commute more
2. Run a sub 20 min 5k each week
3. Do sit-ups every day
4. Pay off $10,000 of mortgage principle
5. Run more and aim for 3000 miles.
